New Cruise Ships Coming in 2023

new cruise ship 2023

MSC World Europa has 13 dining venues, including the new-for-the-line Chef's Garden Kitchen (an outlet focused on microgreens) and La Pescaderia, a traditional seafood grill with alfresco seating. In a twist, the ship has three separate buffet restaurants as well, each with its own ambiance. At around 215,863 tons, MSC World Europa is about 4% to 8% smaller than the five Oasis-class ships. MSC World Europa is 21 decks high — three decks higher than the Oasis-class vessels. Because a large percentage of the new cruise ships arriving in 2023 belong to an existing class and therefore have a familiar look, cruise fans might not find this year's new arrivals to be as exciting as last year's debuts. Also on the way are several significant new ships from major lines that, while new, will look familiar.

Norwegian Cruise Line Unveils 2024 European Sailings

Guests on Norwegian Viva can expect an elevated experience featuring more wide-open spaces, thoughtful and stunning design and exceptional service, mirroring the upscale design and structure of her sister ship Norwegian Prima. Norwegian Viva can accommodate 3,219 guests at double occupancy, in spacious accommodations including the brands’ largest inside, ocean view and balcony category staterooms. The 922-passenger Explora I is the debut ship of Explora Journeys, an all-new luxury cruise line owned by MSC Group, the Geneva-based shipping container giant that also owns MSC Cruises. On a ship that’s big by luxury standards, guests will stay in oceanfront suites, penthouses, or residences, lounge around four pools, and choose from 18 food and beverage options. Unusual activities and entertainment examples will include music master classes and a monthly full-moon party.

Scenic Eclipse II, Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours

Oceanwide Expeditions’ Janssonius (sister ship to its latest vessel, Hondius) has been delayed multiple times at the shipyard, but is now expected to be delivered sometime in 2023. When it does arrive, it will be another Polar Class 6-rated expedition ship for cruises in the Arctic and Antarctica, catering to 170 passengers in 80 comfortable cabins, six with private balconies. Additionally, Norwegian Viva will offer the most outdoor deck space of any new cruise ship, according to the line, including more total pool deck space than any other ship in the brand's fleet other than Norwegian Prima.

MSC Euribia

The space ratio of a ship is considered a measure of how upscale it is, with higher space ratios typically corresponding to more luxurious vessels. After filing for bankruptcy in 2022, Crystal Cruises has found a new owner in luxury travel group Abercrombie & Kent and former Silversea head Manfredi Lefebvre d'Ovidio. The company plans a relaunch of the brand, on Crystal's former ships and with former Crystal President Jack Anderson, in 2023. Silver Nova will also be the line's first ship to have a pool on the side of the ship, as opposed to being enclosed.

The glass-enclosed platform is on the outside of the ship and a highlight is a special dinner held there once or twice per cruise. Previously sailing asTUI Cruises’ Mein Schiff Herz, the vessel is being completely renovated ahead of sailingunder its new name. A snow grotto is among the Scandi-cool – quite literally in this case – features you’ll find on board the latest in Viking’s near-identical fleet of ocean ships. For the ultimate bragging rights sailors (as passengers are called) should check out the Mega RockStar suites complete with electric guitars and vinyl turntables. The second ship in the brand’s Prima class, Norwegian Viva follows in the wake of her much acclaimed sister, Norwegian Prima which debuted in 2022.

Bars and restaurants in Currents include Dr. Inks, Ph.D, serving cocktails inspired by an octopus. Carnival Jubilee, the third of the line’s Excel-class ships after Mardi Gras and Carnival Celebration, brings two new spaces to the fleet — Currents and Shores, both neighborhoods with ocean themes. The ship accommodates 5,400 guests in double occupancy and up to 6,500 if fully booked. More than 6,000 guests joined her maiden sailing, providing a glimpse into the level of high demand this vessel seems destined to enjoy. The highly-anticipated Carnival Jubilee, now the cruise line’s flagship, embarked on her inaugural cruise on December 23, 2023, from her homeport of Galveston, Texas. The ship is sailing 7-night Western Caribbean cruises with calls at Roatan, Honduras, and Costa Maya and Cozumel, Mexico.

Carnival Cruise Line Unveils Booking Tool Upgrades

The first, Marquee, will be an alfresco dining venue that is also off-center, with an orientation that offers commanding views of the sea from the port side of the ship. It'll be home to The Grill, Silversea's signature outdoor "hot rocks" dining venue, and also double as the ship's Spaccanapoli pizza outlet. The second new venue, The Dusk Bar, will be an open-air sky bar at the back of the vessel that, like Marquee, is positioned on the port side of the ship. Originally scheduled to debut in 2022 but delayed by nearly a year, the 2,770-passenger ship will be a nearly identical sister to the two earlier vessels, which began sailing in 2021 and 2022, respectively.

When not exploring, guests may enjoy Al fresco dining beside a heated outdoor pool, or relaxing in the Observation Lounge or The Club Lounge. Explora I uses an emissions control system known as selective catalytic reduction to decrease its nitrogen oxide emissions—another extremely harmful climate pollutant—by up to 90 percent. It’s also equipped with battery storage that will allow for hybrid power generation once the new technology becomes available. Yet another luxury line preparing to launch a new ship is Regent Seven Seas Cruises. Its latest Seven Seas Grandeur will be a third sister to Seven Seas Explorer and Seven Seas Splendor when it embarks in November.

Celebrity Ascent, Celebrity Cruises

Unlike many other cruise lines, specialty restaurants are included in the fare and include Italian Manfredi’s, the Chef’s Table with tasting menus and Mamsen’s showcasing Scandinavian fare. Offering value-for-money cruises for British passengers, Ambassador Cruise Line is welcoming its second vessel. The classic-style Ambition was built in 1999 and has undergone several renovations since its last sailing as the AIDAMira. The third of Virgin Voyages’ head-turning vessels continues to redefine mainstream cruise ship design. With eight restaurants, dining options are extensive for a ship of its size and if you’re staying in the top suites there’s the invitation-only Chef’s Table.

Fares start at $3,600 per person, not including taxes and fees, for a three-night voyage from Hamburg, Germany, to Southampton, England. The unveiling of Explora 1 will mark the arrival of Explora Journeys, an entirely new luxury line that could quickly become one of the biggest in the world. Resilient Lady will be the third ship for Virgin Voyages, the startup line backed by Sir Richard Branson — and it'll look familiar to anyone who has sailed on the brand's first two vessels (Scarlet Lady and Valiant Lady).

Expect on the 750-passenger, all-suite Seven Seas Grandeur the brand’s signature extravagances such as marble floors, crystal chandeliers, gold leaf here, and expensive art there. This is the first time in the 13-year history of the record-breaking Oasis-class series (the world's biggest cruise ships) that a vessel has come close to the Royal Caribbean ships in size. MSC World Europa offers a major new option for cruisers who love being on the biggest, most amenity-packed vessels. This will be a transformational venue where guests can enjoy wraparound ocean views during the day, including an inspiring waterfall. The cruise line will be revealing even more details about the ship as its debut draws closer.

Whether it has a brand new feature that’s never been seen before at sea, a new take on an old favourite, or just an expansion of a fleet that sees it opening up new itineraries. There’s always something worth paying attention to when a new cruise ship launches. With progress on Icon of the Seas moving along, Royal Caribbean has already started building another large “icon class” ship.
