The 8 Best New Cruise Ships of 2023

new cruise ship 2023

The third of Virgin Voyages' "lady ships," Resilient Lady will launch with adult-only cruises in spring 2023. Carrying 2,770 passengers, the ship will have a similar design and attitude to Scarlet Lady and Valiant Lady. Expect fun parties, delicious food and plenty of opportunities to detox and retox. Icon of the Seas will also be the first ship in the cruise line’s fleet to run on liquefied natural gas and fuel cells, which are similar to batteries but do not need to be recharged. Water is the main byproduct of fuel cells—which combine oxygen and hydrogen to produce energy—which should help the ship reduce its greenhouse gas emissions. Icon of the Seas has 20 total decks, 7 swimming pools and 8 “neighborhoods,” or distinct areas with entertainment and dining.

New Cruise Ships: See What’s on the Horizon

New England, Chesapeake Bay and Southeast heritage will be on display in a contemporary fashion across six public venues and 56 private staterooms and suites. Like Celebrity Beyond, Celebrity Ascent also will offer a redesigned Rooftop Garden area with increased seating, new private nooks and two new floating pools cantilevered over the side of the ship. Plus, Norwegian Viva will have The Drop, a 10-story dry slide that Norwegian says offers more G-force than an accelerating Formula One race car.

The ship will offer seven new suite categories and new premium aft suites, a new wellness program, and a new comfort food menu for in-room dining. An adults-only ship and the ninth cruise ship for Viking Cruises, Viking Saturn is an ocean ship, but is small enough that it can dock at ports where larger cruise ships just can’t. So, if you’re in the process of planning out your cruising itineraries for 2023, here are the new cruise ships you’ll want to check out.

Here Are the New Cruise Ships Debuting in 2023

But Disney doesn’t forget that adults are footing the bill and crafts a memorable experience for them, too. On the heels of its latest Norwegian Prima, the second in the namesake class — Norwegian Viva — will be unveiled in August. Viva will repeat Prima’s latest take on The Haven ship-within-a-ship complex, and feature a massive array of culinary offerings, a go-kart racetrack and more when it arrives in Miami. Resilient Lady will initially sail in the Mediterranean before repositioning to Australia for the winter (where it'll mostly cater to the Australian market). Fares start at $455 per person for a two-night voyage out of Melbourne, Australia.

That is, while they will be new builds, they'll feature designs we have seen before. Those four vessels — MSC World Europa, Explora 1, Vista and Silver Nova — are the four new cruise ships for 2023 that have us the most excited here at TPG. However, they're not the only major new cruise vessels arriving during the next 12 months. It's just one of two major new cruise ships arriving in 2023 that has a tie-in to MSC Cruises.

The Icon will also feature the largest pool at sea along with a neighborhood created just for families with areas for all ages. You won’t be short on good views on Resilient Lady as 93% of the cabins offer an ocean view and 86% have an outdoor balcony with Yellow Leaf Hammocks. As well as the white-knuckle BOLT rollercoaster, which debuted on sister ships Mardi Gras and Celebration, Carnival has promised there will be some all-new “surprises” on its third Excel Class vessel. Completing the quartet of Celebrity Cruises’ Edge Class ships, this classy vessel has been shaped by celebrity interior designers including Kelly Hoppen. With levels of luxury found on the line’s other small ships, this latest addition will offer high levels of comfort and personal service as it embarks on adventurous voyages in remote destinations.

This class of Carnival ship also has themed neighborhoods; expect Jubilee to have at least one that is different from its siblings. Finally, the expedition cruise ship trend that started in 2019 and ramped up in 2021 and 2022 will continue, with several newbuilds, including a second Seabourn Expedition ship, Seabourn Pursuit. What’s fascinating is just how many ships are really focussing on eco-friendly technologies. It’s clearly become the next big thing, and it’s great to see cruise lines try to minimise their impact on the planet.

There will be more than 1,400 cabins and most will offer ocean views and nearly 90% will offer balconies. Solo cabins are available, as well as beds that reconfigure into a sofa for better use and more space on sea days. At just 67,000 gross tons and a guest capacity of only 1,200, there’s no denying that Oceania’s Vista is small. If you’re looking for a more intimate cruising experience, with fewer crowds and more peace and quiet, you’ll find it here.

With each new ship, Carnival packs more and more into its fares – with fewer upcharges than most lines. The included food options are tasty and satisfying, the drink packages remain reasonably priced and there’s nonstop entertainment and activities all day. Whether you’re with friends, a significant other or your family, you’re bound to have a good time, with minimum damage to your wallet. MSC’s gorgeous MSC Yacht Club is proof that not all luxury suite complexes are created equal. This private enclave boasts all the requisite perks you might expect, from lavish suites to grand lounges and private dining areas. MSC sets itself apart by making that complex more accessible than ever before, thanks to the line’s value-priced MSC Yacht Club Inside Staterooms that provide a lot of luxe for a little dough.

Move your cruise vacation up a gear on the latest ship to join Norwegian Cruise Line’s fleet. Zip round the three-level go-kart track which is NCL’s largest and can accommodate up to 15 racers at a time. Two helicopters and a submersible are the highlights on Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours’ second discovery ship. Technological enhancements, such as an ice-strengthened hull, will enable it to navigate all seas, including the polar waters of Antarctica and the Arctic.

SH Diana will differ some from her predecessors as a Polar Class 6 ship, accommodating 192 guests and 141 staff. Double-occupancy cabins, including 11 suites, will offer 24/7 in-room dining, and will measure about 215 and 505 square feet. And the Swan Restaurant, Club Lounge and Pool Bar & Grill will make up another three dining options. The all-balcony Silver Nova (a first for Silversea), offers 728 guests an ultra luxury cruise experience with 270 degree unobstructed views to boot.

This series of three ships that include Grandeur, Splendor and Explorer is known for a particularly high level of luxury. This can be most clearly seen in the new Grandeur Regent Suite, which offers 4,443 square feet, a sauna, steam room, spa room, capacity for six, 270-degree views, a balcony and a sunroom. Royal Caribbean can always be relied upon to deliver new and exciting features when it announces its new cruise ships. Icon of the Seas does not deviate from this fact, as it kicks off the cruise line’s brand-new record-breaking Icon class. Even before the cruise ship even enters service, it hit a booking record for Royal Caribbean. Early word on the ship notes nine dining "experiences" and cabins that start at a generous 377 square feet.

The ship has 2641 passenger cabins, divided into 22 different categories, including 2-deck duplex apartments. Carnival Jubilee also shares many similarities with her sister ships, including Grand Central day-to night entertainment complex; French Quarter with its many eateries; La Piazza; and Summer Landing. Scenic Cruises set the benchmark for ultra-luxury cruises with the launch, back in 2019, of Scenic Eclipse, the trailblazer of The World's First Discovery Yachts™. Now Scenic Eclipse II has joined the fleet and offers ultra-luxury all-inclusive expedition cruising, in spacious suites with butler service, access to Senses Spa and a choice of ten dining experiences.

Expect eye-catching sculptures, plenty of crystal and a menu that focuses on the most extravagant ingredients. The first of the line's Allura Class ships, Oceania's Vista will have a lot of new restaurants and features; understandably so, as it's the first newbuild for Oceania Cruises since 2012. Like Norwegian Prima, Norwegian Viva will place The Haven -- NCL's ship-within-a-ship complex -- at the back of the ship. This grouping will make The Haven feel more private, and also allow special suite-only perks such as the private pool, sundeck, restaurants and bars to be all in one place. Regent Seven Seas will be coming out with Seven Seas Grandeur, which aims to raise the bar on opulence on the ocean. Oceania will also come out with its first newbuild in over a decade, Oceania Vista.

Having sailed on her in 2022, I felt that she would be a hard act to follow, but I think Celebrity may have managed to top their best with Celebrity Ascent, which debuted in early December 2023. The first cruise itineraries have the Viva sailing through the Mediterranean region of Europe with stops in various countries like Spain, Italy and France. Resilient Lady will carry 2,700 sailors (as the line calls its passengers) and 1,150 crew. New for Virgin on Resilient Lady will be classic supper club show, Another Rose,  where cabaret will meet the theatrical.
